Katrin Smejkal is a graphic designer and art director, who has worked at the award-winning agency Smith & Gilmour in London for six years, and was part of the senior team at the branding and strategy company Brainds in Vienna for nearly three years.

Katrin also worked as a freelance designer for agencies such as Howdy, London and Lichtwitz Leinfellner, Vienna, as well as a wide range of clients in Austria, England and America. At the same time she also taught Graphic Design as a visiting tutor at the Arts University College Bournemouth.

Her area of expertise is typography, which is not only the focus of her professional work, but also the basis for her explorations into the field of linguistics during her Masters studies at the London College of Communication, from which she graduated with distinction.

Since 2016 Katrin is responsible for the art-direction of Papperlapapp, the bilingual picture-book magazine for children with a different first language to German. The aim of the project is to increase the children’s capabilities in using their native- as well as their educational language.

Most recently, Katrin rejoined the team at Perndl+Co in Vienna.
